Case Study - Masching Transport & Air-Weigh - 'No Room For Mistakes'
Masching Transport has to get it right when weighing loads of livestock. With Air-Weigh on-board scales, it’s right every time.
Solution Overview
CUSTOMER: Masching Transport
LINE OF BUSINESS: Hauling livestock
LOCATION: Hayfield, Minnesota
IN BUSINESS SINCE: 2011
AIR-WEIGH ON-BOARD SCALE USER SINCE: 2012
The Situation
Masching Transport hauls very precious cargo – livestock. Owner Jason Masching needs to maximize the legal weight he hauls just as much as any other trucking company. And while no driver wants to unload a haul after loading because it’s found to be overweight, that is far more complicated when hauling livestock. Not only are living animals much more difficult to keep loading and unloading, but biosecurity concerns make it almost impossible if one of the animals is found to be unhealthy.
Masching runs seven trucks, which cover 600,000 miles a year. He has to weigh each truck 30 times each week. He cannot afford to waste time, and he cannot afford to find out after the fact that a load is overweight. He needs to get it right the first time – every time.

The Answer: Air-Weigh On-Board Scales
Jason installed LoadMaxx tractor scales and LoadMaxx Plus trailer scales to get weight readings right.
The results:
- Jason no longer has to spend time and money traveling to Cat scales to weigh his loads.
- There is no longer any risk of having to unload livestock because of being overweight.
- Jason maximizes the weight of every load because he can monitor the weight as he’s loading, which allows him to load to the legal limit and maximize his profits.
WHAT THEY TOLD US ABOUT THE IMPACT OF AIR-WEIGH ON-BOARD SCALES
Accuracy:
“The installation was smooth and the scales are calibrated and on the money.”
Convenience:
“The ease of hooking the tractors and the different trailers, and not having to roll over a Cat scale, eliminates a huge pain.”
The Value of Knowing For Sure:
“There is no room for mistakes here. Before I would find out the average weight of the pig and count out how many pigs I could fit on the trailer. If the average was 350 pounds I would do the math. But I would not put that last pig on. What if he’s 351? Now I know the exact weight I’m loading, as I’m loading them.”
Quality:
“I’ve used scales from other manufacturers but I always end up sending them back. Quality is the reason I am very happy with Air-Weigh scales.”
Happy Drivers:
“Not having to spend time visiting scales, oh yeah, they’re OK with that.”

But I would not put that last pig on. What if he’s 351? Now I know the exact weight I’m loading, as I’m loading them.”
The Conclusion
Not only for the well-being of the animals but also for the viability of the transport business, Jason Masching needs to know his exact weight before he’s finished loading. If not, he risks more than a citation for driving overweight. He risks the viability of the entire load.
Air-Weigh on-board scales have eliminated the question marks, as well as the trips to in-ground scales and the time that used to take away from the runs. With 600,000 miles to cover every year, Air-Weigh on-board scales get Masching Transport’s assets on the road quickly, without the risk of running overweight or underweight, while protecting the lives of the livestock who are on board.
