Murphy-Brown LLC Saves Money with Air-Weigh Scales
Eugene, OR, March 12, 2007 – Air-Weigh, the transportation industry’s leading supplier of on-board
electronic scales, today announced that North Carolina based Murphy-Brown LLC, the worlds largest
producer of pork, has installed 5800 Series on its fleet of livestock and feed equipment. Murphy-Brown
currently has over 500 hog farms in the United States producing approximately 14.5 million market hogs
and 9.3 million turkeys annually.
Murphy-Brown’s maintenance manager Wayne Banks has found innovative ways to us the Air-Weigh
Scales to the company’s advantage. He explains, “We have scales on our feed and grain trailers. We use
the scales on trailers that distribute partial loads at each location. Thanks to Air-Weigh we can keep track
of how much weight they’ve off-loaded each time. We also have Air-Weigh scales on our pig-hauling
tractors and trailers. By establishing our weights at the loading site we’ve eliminated extra miles and
wasted time. Whether they’re small pigs or big pigs we know the weight of our load, and it saves us a
whole lot of time.”
Wayne states about the cost savings, “It’s 30 to 40 miles to the nearest scale, and we load many times a
day, so Air-Weigh has already paid for itself in the out of route miles alone.”
The Air-Weigh 5800 Series on-board truck scale is a true load management system that is permanently
installed in the dash and calibrated to each suspension on the vehicle. The 2-inch display automatically
shows each axle group’s weight on one screen, with no operator interaction required. A single button
press displays GVW and Net Payload weights.
With Air-Weigh scales, fleets eliminate all of the costs and delays caused by weighing at an in-ground
scale, while reducing overweight fines. Air-Weigh Scales increase load efficiency and decrease overall
cost per mile in fleets that depend on check-weighing.
